Awkward and Awesome Friday

Well, here we are...
The last Friday in April.
May? Summer?
 What?
Awkward:
  • Meeting someone at the movies on the wrong day.
  • Going to Goodwill on the weekend at the exact time everyone that had a garage sale that day is dropping things off as well.
  • Dropping a large container of Greek yogurt on the floor and the container literally explodes all of you and the kitchen.
  • Wondering what has gotten your dog so interested that he can't stop rolling all over it.  Walking over and realizing it is a dead snake!
  • It's time to renew my driver's licence and I was so happy to be able to do it online and then it turns out my birthday month is wrong on the license.  Now I have to go to the DMV and prove when my birthday is.
 Awesome:
  • Being told you look like Diane Keaton twice in one day.
  • Girlfriend time.
  • Being called a beautiful young lady by the old dude in the mall with a walker and oxygen!
  • Last week of college for son2!
  • When the produce guy at the market lets you sample the produce before you buy it.
I am not sure why I am having a hard time believing
that May is knocking at the door...
 It is officially HOT now.
Time to break out the tanks, skirts and anything
 that you won't melt wearing.
I dug out my trusty sequin tank
and paired it with a breezy little skirt.
Just because it's already in the 90's
 doesn't mean you can't dress cute...right?!

Have you hit the 90's where you live yet?

Denim Squared

I'm not very good at math,
but I do know when to double down when wearing denim!
I never get why people go on and on about wearing double denim.
Is it a do or a don't?
 For the most part,
more people get it right than wrong
 and
 it's not that complicated.
In this outfit I paired a denim blazer with jeans.
The blazer is just a skosh darker than the jeans
and the white t just keeps the look simple.
Double Denim should always be kept simple.
I added my Adidas mostly because
 I just love them,
but this trend isn't going anywhere for
awhile according to all of my reading.

What do you think about double denim?
Is it a look you would wear?

Blue Stripes

Here's to a day filled with sunshine and warmth!
I love this simple midi length skirt from Old Navy.
It is so easy to wear.
Midi skirts were once just "trendy",
but have made their way to be a closet staple now.
I paired it with a chambray shirt today.
A Chambray shirt is a MUST have in your wardrobe.
 It goes with everything!!
And if you haven't figured it out by now,
lace up sandals are the "it" shoe
 to have for the summer.

Are you a fan of the midi skirt?

Awkward and Awesome Friday

Have you been listening to Prince since yesterday afternoon?
His album 1999 was iconic for me in college!
Awkward:
  • When you are supposed to meet people at a certain place and you are given directions to the wrong place.  Who doesn't want to meet at a wine bar at 10 am???
  • When you need coat hangers for an event and the Mr. just happens to have freshly picked up shirts from the cleaners in the car, so you steal the hangers from his freshly laundered shirts.
  • Watching a glass slide down the banister of the stairs and you can't move fast enough to stop it.
  • Looking forward to seeing a movie you have wanted to see for awhile and then it just turns out to be meh!
  • Your friend's dog won't stop licking your toes.
 Awesome:
  • Going to a clothing swap at a craft brewery!
  • New eyeglasses.
  • Have you been to the 5Below store yet?  Nothing you need, but crap you think you want.
  • Finding an awesome new shoe store near you.
  • Picking out new paint colors.
For a couple days this week it felt like summer around here,
 so I dressed for it.
Who doesn't love pineapples and
pineapples with hot pink is even better.
I paired this top with navy pants so the top
could be the focus of the look!

Have a great weekend and party like it's 1999!!!

My New Favorite Sneakers

Hello All!
Talking about sneakers today.
Yep, that's right the sneaker trend is so hot right now
and I am all over it.
I love my white Chuck Taylors and have worn them for years.
But, now I am obsessed with these
"old school" Adidas!
Yes, you can wear them with a dress,
 skirts, jeans, trousers, shorts...
well...pretty much anything you want.
Bonus - they are so comfortable.
The look I am wearing today, is everywhere.
You can't turn a page in a magazine,
 scroll through Instagram or Pinterest
and not see some version of it.
 Instant classic look.

You know me.
I had to add a pop of color,
so cyan blue was my choice for this look.

Do you own the Adidas sneakers?
Have you paired them with a dress?

Navy and White

Good Monday Everyone!
We had a beautiful weekend here weather wise.
I think Spring might finally be here for good.
I am all about navy regarding this outfit.
I rarely focus on one color and if I do,
it is usually a bright color.
But, I was inspired by my new shoes.
Navy and white is a classic spring combo
and I just went with it.
I kept my look neutral by adding the black vest,
but navy and white looks great with a pop of color as well.
Navy and white always looks fresh and clean
no matter how you wear it!

Go throw on a bit of navy and white
to celebrate the arrival of Spring!

Awkward and Awesome Friday

Happy Friday Lovelies!
Here's wishing you a fun weekend.
Awkward:
  • Accidentally washing a dry clean only wool skirt.  Anyone have a baby doll that is in need of a cute little skirt??
  • Getting a cut right across the top of your big toe.  No shoes are comfortable!
  • When you try new leg exercises and you end up with jello legs.  You know what I am talking about.
  • Someone recommending their recipe for a green smoothie and it is one the most horrid things you have ever tasted.
  • Getting a crazy text from someones email and then they try to Facetime you.
Awesome:
  • Looking everywhere for a specific beauty tool and there it is displayed in the grocery store.
  • Just sitting outside basking in the sunshine.
  • Cake from your favorite bakery!!
  • Receiving a sample of a concealer you adore, but would never pay that much money for.
  • Watching people on TV cracking up and you are at home cracking up at them cracking up.
Today I am combining teal and green.
If you get InStyle Magazine you will know that
this was a color combo feature.
I was lucky enough to find both in my closet and well....
I kind of love the combo!
I think this color combo would work
for just about anyone's skin tone.

Have you paired these two colors together before?
Would you in the future?

Pattern Play

I missed you all on Monday.
I just never got myself together enough to sit down and blog.
But, I'm here today!
I hope your Wednesday is going well and that you are seeing some sunshine wherever you are.
I think I am finally ready for Spring to come and stay!
It's not quite here yet.
Layering is always a good idea this time of year.
I went pretty basic color wise with this outfit...
BUT
The mix of patterns and bold jewelry are what
 gives this outfit it's  flare.
Stars and window pane...what a great combo - right?!

Are you still having to layer where you live?
What is a great pattern combo you have put together lately?

Awkward and Awesome Friday

Yeah, the weekend is here!
I am ready for some sun and fun,
but I am not sure that mother nature
 is going to be agreeable.
Awkward:
  • Too many "text groups" going at the same time.
  • Getting behind a little old man that gets in front of you as soon as you pull out of your neighborhood and goes 25 mph in a 45 mph zone and that little man stays in front of you all the way to where you are headed.  (no, I could not ever get around him!)
  • Having lunch with a group of people at one of those long tables and end up never having a conversation with 2 people during the entire lunch.
  • When the sun is so strong through a window that it reflects on a clear glass vase and burns a hole not only in the table cloth, but the table as well.
  • Just sitting in your car at the entrance of your neighborhood trying to get out onto the main street when a car comes barreling at you and you think you are about to be smashed to pieces and the car literally stops about 20 feet from your car.
 Awesome:
  • When your friend suggest to take your spices out of the "spice cabinet" and make a "spice drawer" instead.  Changed my life!!
  • New to me patio furniture.
  • Hanging out at the BeerMe craft brewers festival to help raise money for Habitat For Humanity.
  • Dinner at the lake with friends.
  • Finally getting that new light fixture hung in the dining room.  It looks great!
Unexpected cool weather in the spring calls
 for a double sweater look.
This works because the first cardigan
is the same length as the blouse.
I had to pull out my booties for this look as well,
so my feet would be nice and warm.
  AND...
who doesn't love red and pink together?

Have you ever worn a double cardigan look?
Would you?

Target blouse, long cardigan and booties

Double Floral

I hope you are having a nice week so far.
Enjoy all the beautiful flowers and foliage blooming this week.
As much as I love to pattern mix,
I am not sure how often I mix a double floral pattern.
This actually might be the first time.
I mean it's spring time,
when would be a better time to layer on the florals.
I went with flowers of varying color and size,
but all in the same color family.
That's what makes this work.
This really is a thrown together look
as I was running late and just grabbed easy wear pieces.
I kept the jewelry within the pink tones
of the florals I was wearing.
This helps to pull it all together.

Have you done a floral mix look yet?
What did you think?

Springtime Black and White

Cold in the morning, warm in the afternoon.
What do you wear?
A blazer of course.
 If it is linen,
 that's even better.
I choose this classic white linen blazer tipped in black.
I have had it in my closet for awhile
and just forget how versatile it can be.
I went pretty classic with this look.
Black and white all over, with a preppy vibe.
Dig through your closet and find a great blazer
that hasn't been out in awhile.

Are you a fan of a blazer in the spring?

Awkward and Awesome Friday

Hello April!
I hope you get through the day without getting April Fooled.
Awkward:
  • When the dog finds the Easter candy the day before Easter.  Luckily he was caught in time before doing too much damage to himself.
  • When you get a phone call saying you haven't paid taxes in several years and when you ask what agency this person is from they say, "the FBCI".  The what??  Total scammer!
  • You realize the next time you see son2 he will be graduating college.  Where did the time go????
  • Having computer technical difficulties in front of a group of people.
  • April Fool's Day
 Awesome:
  • When someone not sitting at your table at a restaurant pays for your meal.
  • Finding a book you lost over a week ago.
  • All of the azaleas, dogwoods and cherry trees in bloom.
  • Finally talking the MR. into the light fixture you want.
  • Actually re-creating the meal you learned to prepare in your cooking class.
Easing into spring with some Ikat and Denim.
Love adding a statement necklace to a relaxed look
to add some flare.

Are you a big April Fool's prankster?
Are you weary of everyone else on this day?
