My friends are always asking me these same questions, so it will be fun to answer them.
Let's get started
1. How do you determine what you will wear that day?
I have several methods of determining what I will wear each day. They are very random and for those "I need to know everything in advance" people, you will not like my methods.
- the weather plays a part in figuring out what I will wear
- my mood plays a big part
- time is also a part of the mix
- did an idea of an outfit come to me that I have been wanting to try or am I pretty much winging it or I am looking at my inspiration board and trying to get inspired.
- did I recently have a "Pretty Woman" session (see below for explanation)
As ya'll know, I am not a planner. Not even when I was doing my little glitz and glam challenge did I have a plan of attack.
Honestly, I am and always have thought about outfits in my head throughout the day. Did I see something someone wore that I want to emulate, a photo in a magazine, something on tv or on another blog or hey, I wonder what would happen if I put X,Y and Z together.
3. Do you have any specific way of tracking outfits and items already
worn so you don't repeat?
Kind of, but not really.... In my closet I have two shelves for sweaters, so if I have worn it already it goes on one shelf and if not on the other shelf. My coat hangers are turned around backwards and after I wear something I turn them around the other way. This is mostly to track what I never wore at the end of the season so I can purge it out of my closet.
I probably need to come up with a better system as I blog more because my memory isn't holding up as well as it used to.
I will have to ponder this...
4. How do you discover new combinations of items in your closet?
(Trial try-ons? Hanging items together?)
I love to do trial try-ons!! When an inspiration hits me I will write it down and then when I get a bit of time, I will head to the closet and do a Julia Roberts, Pretty Woman session. This is usually at night after husband has gone to bed. Luckily I have a walk-in closet.
I do not hang items together. My clothes are hung by colors and types of clothing.
5. To streamline the process for 2011 what is one new thing you can do to cut down your dressing time?
I am going to organize my jewelry, shoes and accessories. I spend the most time looking for something I know I have, but can't remember where I saw it last.

Brett - What a great idea about the hangers! That would certainly help us all realize what we haven't worn and purge when needed. I find so many women say things like 'I wear this' or worse 'I wear this all the time' when the reality is they USED to wear it all the time, but haven't touched it in a year or two. What a waste of closet space. - Katy
#2: I'm the same! I can't imagine planning outfits. Usually, my next day's outfit comes to me riiiiight as I'm drifting off the night before. At least I keep it fresh, right?!
Have a great weekend, girl!
These questions definitely made me realize that I need to be more organized.
Brett--I do the separate piles for sweaters thing and also organize by color.
Found myself trying to picture you in the walk-in trying on outfits as the husband snoozes.
Trial try-ons? Wow. I can't bring myself to do that. Too lazy. But, I love picturing a Pretty Woman style session.
