Blogger Darling of the Day

I want you to meet my friend Tracy Miller.
She lives in Oakland, California with her gorgeous husband of twenty years.
Her blog and consulting business are named The Closet Shopper.
She came up with that name 10 years ago when she started her business.
The name has two meanings for her.  She does what she calls “going shopping in your closet”, when she comes to a clients house to start the process of purging. She finds all kinds of outfits for them within their current wardrobe that they never would have thought to put together. And of course the other meaning is that she is a closet shopper.
She loves to shop and is constantly finding deals and bargains to add pieces to her own wardrobe.
She jokes that she is really out of the closet at this point.
Tracy started her blog in July 2007, but didn’t start posting any outfits or consistently for that matter until July 2010.
She decided to post her own outfits so that potential clients could see that she was just a regular gal and they need not be intimidated to hire a stylist.
She is what you call a stylist for the every day woman.
Everyone gets into fashion ruts and she is here to clear the mess and boost your confidence back to what it was before that rut.

I  asked Tracy a few fun questions and here are her answers....

  1. Favorite color of socks to wear?
Hmm, I’m not very creative with my sock choices. I usually just wear socks with boots or shoes that cover them so you can’t see them. I wear gray, black, brown, or white. I’ve recently worn socks with sandals and really love that look.
  1. What reality TV show would you want to be on?
I’m a reality TV junkie. My husband is mortified. But I can’t get enough. If I was to actually be on a reality show, I would love to be Stacy London from What Not To Wear. I honestly love her and Clinton Kelly. But I secretly want to be her, well I guess not so secretly now. I do exactly what they do with my clients only I’m less harsh. I love how they play off each other and I usually agree with all their suggestions. And I love the outcome and how the clients seem so happy and completely changed at the end of the episode.
  1. What is your favorite daily thing to wear?
I don’t think I have a favorite daily thing to wear. It changes from month to month. Sometimes from week to week. Since Christmas, my favorite thing to wear is my Tiffany necklace that my husband got for me. Getting that little blue box is quite special. Oh that husband of mine. He’s a keeper.

  1. Who do you think is the best dressed man in Hollywood?
I would have to say that George Clooney is the best dressed man in Hollywood. He’s the current day Clark Gable in my opinion. So dapper and regal but calm and seemingly down to earth. His fashion is classic and handsome and sometimes a bit rugged. He’s yummy!
  1. Who do you think is the worst dressed woman in Hollywood?
Yikes. I’m not an authority on worst dressed. I think everyone has their own style and I love to see what people decide to wear everyday. If someone asked my opinion on how they dress, I would try to be thoughtful and honest. I think in Hollywood it’s easy to dress fabulous because they can afford anything they want. While that seems wonderful, I think it would be too much for me to handle. Not that I wouldn’t like the chance to see how I’d fair.
I am going to fly to CA and steal this skirt out of her closet!
  1. How do you organize your closet?  color, type of clothing etc
I organize my closet by type first and then within that order, I organize by color. I have shelves in my closet where I put sweaters and tees. And then I have my shoes organized by season and color on the floor of my closet. I have a small closet so I do closet purges every season and sell what I can at my favorite consignment store. With what I have left over, I will donate to my sister and then my co-workers. This way I can see what I have and it’s easier to get dressed. It also makes it easier to make better use of my wardrobe so that I’m not tempted to wear the same thing every day and get into a “uniform” rut.
  1. If you could dress like any TV character, who would it be?
I would say perhaps Jules from Cougar Town. I love the wardrobe on that show. She always looks so comfortable but really well put together. I think that’s what I try to do as well as try to teach my clients. If you’ve put together a look that makes you feel great, you won’t feel as scattered. You actually feel more confident. Does that make sense?
  1. What is your favorite accessory excluding shoes?
SUNGLASSES!! I love sunglasses so much. I think they glam up any outfit. Don’t you?
Also, I would have to say scarves and jackets. It’s the finishing pieces that I think really make an outfit pop. Scarves can add color or flare to any outfit. And blazers or jackets add structure and can make a pair of jeans and a tee into a more chic look.
  1. Is there any outfit that you have EVER worn that still haunts you to this day?
Oh my lord. YES! When I was in High School my boyfriend and I used to wear matching tee shirts on certain days. We would coordinate it. So embarrassing. But I think my hair styles were really more haunting than my outfits. I mean, at the time we all wore the same clothes and the same hair styles, so it was cute and hip for it’s time. But I wouldn’t wear a poofie-sleeved floral print dress again. EVER. You know the one. Sort of Little House on the Prairie looking dress? Ugh. That really aged me, didn’t it. And I’m pretty sure I’ll never get a perm again. Even though there were some haunting 80’s fashion, I’m enjoying revisiting some of it these days with the high-waisted pants and blazers with big shoulder pads. If it’s done in a modern way, it looks great.
  1. What celebrity/fashion icon would you want to take with you on a shopping spree?
That’s easy. Gwyneth Paltrow. Not only does she have amazing style, she seems like she’d be so much fun to hang out with. If the interviews are to be believed, she comes off as a super funny, laid back person. Her style is classic but casual. She always looks amazing even when she is walking her dog. I love that. I’m also a fan of Jennifer Aniston for the same exact reasons. But I’d like to go shopping with Gwyneth. And in my fantasy we’d become best friends forever!

I hope you enjoyed meeting Tracy and will swing by her blog and say HI!
