The Hunger Games

Yea, I was one of those people who went to the midnight showing last night, or this morning.  However you look at it.
I was really fun and besides only getting 3 1/2 hours of sleep I'd totally do it again.

As I said yesterday 2 of my friends son's were extras in the movie.
We saw them each twice in the film.
Now, if you blinked you might miss them, but they were definitely in it.
The lady in the dark shirt is the aunt of one of the boys in the film.  The lady in the white shirt is his mom.

I was impressed with how the theater handled the whole midnight chaos situation.
Actually, there wasn't a lot of chaos.
 It was very well organized.
These are the girls in the group I went with to the movie.
There were lots of girls dressed up as Katniss.
Many girls that were not dressed as Katniss had on some sort of shirt referencing either Peeta or Gale.
Haven't seen that many braids since drill team camp!
This is the mom of the other boy that was in the film.

I have to say one of the most fun parts about the first showing  is  sitting in the theater with the teen girls.
 Their reactions are so intense.
I swear some girls started crying 15 min. into the film and never stopped.

There were quite a few guys at the movie.
The best was one dude in the hallway of the theater trying to finish the book before the movie began.

Final analysis:
  •  I think it is helpful to read the book before seeing the movie.  I don't know if things would be as clear if you didn't.
  •  The movie followed the book pretty well, but I am a purest and like my movies to be exactly like the book. (not that that ever happens)
  • I give it an 8 out of 10.  Mostly because you just can't get the detail with a movie like you can in a book.

Have a great weekend

Great review! Thanks. You confirmed my inclination to go and see this.

There is something special about going to a public theater on a highly-anticipated night and joining with a group of others to watch something. You capture that magic in your description. Glad you had fun.

You have a lot more energy than I do, since I know I would fall asleep during a midnight show!

I haven't read the book so the movie doesn't interest me as much but I'll probably still go and see it. I love your red and blue outfit and how neat that a) you went with a gaggle of teenage gals and b) your friends have celeb kids :)

I enjoyed your review and loved the pictures. How exciting for the mom's and aunt of the boys who are extras. Loved the girls all dressed up and I cracked up on the boy finishing the book before the movie. I loved the books and am looking forward to the movie.

Great review and I totally agree. I took the day off work to go see the movie and I think you definitely need to read the books first to get the whole picture and the full back story. I can't wait for the 2nd movie since that was my favorite book out of the 3.

Oh my gosh! I LOVE this post! I, too was at the midnight showing, and it didn't pay off well for me! I was already not feeling well to begin with so the next day (and now) I am on the couch with a box of kleenex all day!!

I loved your comment about all the braids! So true!

I loved the movie, but am a lot like you in that I analyze it A LOT in comparison with the book (and am therefore always disappointed). I was a little sad about the dynamic between Katniss and Peeta. Separately I felt they were each perfect for the role, but their scenes weren't always believable. I think the book spent so much time establishing their relationship (especially in that cave during the games), and we only got a glimpse of it in the movie. It was not enough for me! Plus, (maybe this is bad) but it was weird to me how she was bigger than him. He just looked a lot younger than her to me.

Can't wait to see it! I always want the movie to be just like the book too.

8 out of 10 is pretty good in my opinion of a book to movie interpretation! That's awesome that you know the relatives of extras in the movies. One of my colleagues' daughters was an extra at the Superbowl when Madonna was performing.

glad to hear the movie was pretty good and you had a fun time at the midnight showing!
I got 3.5 hours of sleep because I stayed up all night reading the second book and started the third today... I'll go see the movie later this week!
