Awkward and Awesome Thursday:Car Wreck Edition

Hi All
If you follow me on twitter, then you know I was in a pretty bad car wreck yesterday.
Thankfully I only sustained a mild concussion and lots of bruising and getting banged up.
My car was hit as I was crossing the road to go into my subdivision.
Now let's get started....

Awkward:
  • Realizing you are hanging upside down/sideways once your SUV stops rolling after being hit.
  • Having to have the fireman use an axe on the front windshield to get you out of the vehicle.
  • Riding in the back of an ambulance strapped to an immobilization device.  Those neck brace things are the most uncomfortable things in the world!!
  • Being surrounded by nurses taking blood pressure, starting an IV and taking temps while immobilized and suddenly realizing someone is trying to take your pants off.
  • Son2 running from our house to the scene of the wreck so quickly he didn't put on any shoes.  He rode in ambulance to hospital where they gave him hospital socks to wear.
Me waiting to be told I can leave the hospital.
Totally relieved that I am in one piece and not going to die
of internal injuries or some rare head trauma.

Awesome:
  • That I survived the crash with minimal injuries.  Folks if you are not a regular seat belt wearer, please start doing so.  If not for my seat belt, I would not be alive today!!!
  • That my friend, Carol, came to the hospital to take me home (husband was out of town) and had Gatorade in the car waiting for me.
  • Son2 took charge of my care when I got home  and made sure I kept up with taking pain medication.
  • Husband who would have flown home immediately if I had wanted him to and is taking care of all the details for me now that he is back in town.
  • That no one else was in the car with me and the other driver is totally fine.

I could go on and on with both awkward and awesome things that happened due to this unfortunate incident, but I think I will rest this sore, bruised, battered and tired body!!

I hope you only have awesome things happen in your life today and please drive safely!!

Oh no!! I'm so sorry you had to go through this!! It must have been such a stressful situation for everyone. I'm happy to see that you can look at the positive things during all of this. I sure hope you recover quickly and fully.
On another note, you look great in your floral hospital gown. ;)

I'm so glad you are OK. I've never been in a roll over but from now on I'll be seat belting.

I'm so glad you are ok. That sounds terrifying!

I cringe whenever someone says they do not wear a seatbelt because it 'wrinkles their clothes'.

Very thankful you wear yours and wishing you a complete recovery from your bruises, aches and pains.

Glad you're okay, Brett! So many of my friends have been in car accidents lately. I'm thankful that I don't drive in New York.

Oh Brett I am so so happy you are ok, wow what a scary experience that must have been! That photo of you is so touching- you look so relieved! I always make sure to wear my seatbelt, it's so important to take all the steps possible, we can't control other drivers but we can control what we do!
