Paint It Black

More often than not I wear color, but every once in awhile it is nice to wear all black to showcase a pop of color or a nice pattern.
That is what I did with this look that was inspired from an outfit I saw on Pinterest.
The black is a nice backdrop to show off the leopard smoking slippers and the tartan scarf.
This is one of my favorite scarves and I wear it quite a bit,
but for some reason it never makes blog photos.
Do you have an article of clothing like that?
Of course the leopard smoking slippers look great with any color.
Funny side note- yesterday in the classroom where I volunteer the mystery word was black.
That fact made me a kindergarten celebrity of sorts.

I also wanted to give you an update on The Traveling Scarf
It has been a while since we last saw it.
It is being styled by Sylvia over at Sylvia Loves Pink
I believe Sylvia is the first person to style the scarf with a skirt, she did a great job.
I love how she pulled out the burgundy in the scarf.
Very different from the last two looks we saw
that pulled out the purple and mustard.

I must say that our Traveling Scarf participants have been very creative and versatile.
I look forward to seeing the next look.

Thanks Sylvia for partaking in the challenge.

I used to be afraid of all black for the longest time for fear of appearing goth. Obviously, you pull it off amazingly...WHAT ARE THOSE SHOES??! I LOVE THEM.

I love the pattern mixing of plaid and leopard, so this is a great look! As much as I love color too, it's nice to go back to the classics every now and then.

Sylvia did a great job with the scarf. I love it with the burgundy skirt! Heather

Black can be a great base to build on, like you did with the leopard print shoes and plaid scarf! They are fun and unexpected details. Adorable! And so glad to see that the scarf is making its rounds. It has been so fun watching how everyone has styled it! :)

I'm in love with your moto vest jacket thingie. You remind me of Gemmma on SOA whom I have a terrible girl crush on :P

I've got to start a traveling something, inspired by you. I so wanted to participate with your scarf but I have the sallowest complexion on the planet and knew that I would let that lovely green in your scarf down very badly :(

brett, your black ensemble reminds me of a blog post i read, where according to the writer, the key to pulling off such a look was using a variety of textures. which you did very well! i was just thinking about the traveling scarf yesterday. i really was.

I wore all black this week too. I have a sweater that I wear that NEVER makes it on the blog. Great look!

What a clever idea to pass the scarf around. Can't wait to see the next one.
I think you look great in all black. I have to admit that I too like to do it once in a while but I always need to wear something lighter on the following day. Especially because my lounging clothes are mostly black. I can't take too much of it.
You know what would look cute with this outfit? Your son's burgundy beret!

Brett, you look fantastic in this all black outfit. I can't believe how good you made black look. I do not look good in all black for some reason. I would be willing to try it sometime with you as my inspiration. dawn suitcase vignettes

There is nothing you can't wear.

I wore the almost identical outfit on Monday...all black with a chambray vest. I didn't post the pictures...I didn like them at all. Cute on you, though!

I love your subtle pattern mixing. It works really well with the black backdrop allowing the other pieces to take center stage.
