Patterns + Textures

Today will be an interesting day today.
Woke up to freezing rain, but it has already stopped.
Forecast is that much more is on it's way and schools are closing 2 hours early today.
People go crazy around here when any frozen precipitation is involved.
I wore this little outfit to a birthday dinner last Sunday night.
The night we saw the "Biebs" tour bus.
My favorite part of this outfit is all of the different
 patterns and textures it incorporates.
The shades of light and dark make it interesting as well.
Of course I had to pop a little color into the mix.
This is a sweater dress I have had for awhile and was running out of ideas on how to style it.
Then I came across a similar look in InStyle magazine that I knew would be perfect for this dress.
I love it when I can breath new life into something that has been in my closet just waiting to be reinvigorated.

Are you always on the look out for ideas to style pieces you already own?
or
Do you just keep styling the same pieces the same way each time?

The houndstooth jacket plays very nice with the stripes in the dress. Loving the pop of purple with the scarf too. Have a nice weekend! Heather

I know what you mean, I hate wearing a piece of clothing the same way over and over again. Love your pop of purple in this look!

I'm always trying to find new ways to style my clothes too. And layering is a great way to breathe new life into a item; you look great!

Freezing rain is the worst, since it makes driving so tough. I like the purple and the gray together.

I like the mix of patterns you used in this one, and keeping it mostly monochrome keeps it from looking busy. I'm glad you added the scarf-- great finishing piece!

Love the different patterns mixed together. Love all the grey and black. My favorite colors.

I used to stick to the combination I bought. Until I discovered 40plusstyle.com
I started to follow that site and other bloggers. Slowly but gradually I am getting better and better in finding new combinations. And feeling thrilled when I come up with a good new one. Like you have with this dress, which is a top combination by the way. My best success was 6 different new combinations with 1 sheer brown skirt.

Mixing pattern is not an easy exercise but you do it with elegance, Brett.
Your outfit flows and there is harmony in it. It comes probably from the fact that you play grey shades (fifty shades of grey... very trendy these days ;-) ). And your scarf adds the perfect final touch to your whole outfit.

Ugh, I am the worst at finding new ways to wear my stuff - I get stuck in such a rut! Kudos to you for reimagining. And I love your purple scarf. Hope you survived the frozen precipitation :)

I LOVE this outfit, maybe one of my fave Brett looks ever! The boots, sweater dress, thick tights, houndstooth and moto, need I go on? Very chic! And you saw Bieb's tour bus! I would be screaming like a teenage girl! :)
