Can you say Copy Cat?

Over on Style Underdog there has been a challenge of using whatever you have in your closet and copying a look that you have seen in a magazine, an add or even a catalog. It has been a lot of fun to see what and how people have interpreted an outfit.  I decided to try the challenge yesterday.  I have actually had this picture up in my closet for a while because I was drawn to this look for some reason.  Not even sure why.  Not the way I normally dress, maybe that is part of why I liked the outfit.  So here is the look I am drawing from:

And here is what I came up with:

My collared Henley actually has a ruffle on the collar and down the placard.  I think this adds some feminine detail to the overall look. (you can see the Henley in greater detail as you scroll down)
My denim shirt is a light blue stripe, kind of a mattress ticking pattern.
I am wearing a dark denim blazer instead of gray wool, frankly because it is the only blazer I own.
I didn't have a cute little leopard print crossover bag, so I added a leopard print scarf to the black crossover bag that I do own.
Can't see what shoes this girl is wearing, but to me this just screamed riding boots so that is what I choose.
The girl in the picture is not wearing any jewelry at all, but I decided to add my diamond studs... just thought it looked right for this look.
Now for the behind the scenes scoop...

I knew that when I put this on, that I would immediately take off the blazer because it was just too hot.  Well, by 2:00 that afternoon, I was so hot I couldn't take it anymore.  I stripped off  the denim shirt, rolled up the sleeves on my Henley, took off the boots, took the scarf off of the purse and used it as a belt, then threw on some sandals and went about the rest of the day in the crazy 80+ degree weather.

Have you seen a look that you just love?  Browse around your closet and I bet you can come up with something pretty close to what you see in the picture.  Maybe change out the pants for a skirt or reverse the color palette or even just use the color palette from the picture and create a your own look.  Good Luck and happy Copy Catting!

Wow! I am ALWAYS copying looks out of magazines with what I have in the closet. You did an AWESOME job with this one! The scarf on the bag adds something extra and I think you made a great call with the boots :)

Hi there, another reader that came through Style Underdog (via Already Pretty). I am 39 and delighted to find some blogs for the 'mature' woman. although I still feel like I am 21, the mirror tells me something else, but damn if I am going down without a struggle to look stylish. Keep up the blog work to inspire me !

I agree with girls before me .You look super fantastic and ...fresh .
There is a kind of misconception about how 40+should dress and we are about to bring the barriers down.So,40+ solidarity sounds good to me.

Thanks for everyone's kind words and encouragement.

I think I have the RSS thing working now. I am still so new to all of this that I sometimes think something is working and it really is not.

I look forward to reading all your blogs and getting to know you through them.

Thanks again for all of the love!
