We had a small ice incident on Friday afternoon, but by Saturday afternoon there were no traces left.
Today over on Two Birds our inspiration is Drew Barrymore.
While I am not a fan of this look, it is always fun to experiment with new things so I went digging through the closet.
Here is what I came up with.
Not thrilled with it,
but not every outfit can be an outta the park look.
I will confess that I mostly felt like I had packed the wrong kind of clothes for a trip and just had to make it work.
It was cold outside and this light cotton maxi wasn't cutting it, even with the flannel shirt over top.
While this will probably be a one time look for me, it was fun to stretch outside of my comfort zone
and
try something new and totally different.
Thanks for the challenge Two Birds and Drew.
Would you wear this look?

I couldn't make this look work for me at all, so I didn't take part this week.
That's a really pretty dress, I can imagine it in warmer weather ;o)
Ooh, this would be a tough one to do. I like the concept of one or the other of these items, but not so sure with them together. Your maxi dress is so pretty though! Your hair looks great in these photos too. Good for you for getting out of your comfort zone :) Heather
this one was a challenge, right? i think you look great, though...those colors are great on you and together! we're glad you played along even if it wasn't your favorite!
Love that second photo of you!
This is a tough one. I do like your dress tho...
I think an over-sized cardi might have looked better?
love how you copied this look!!

Ooh, I like the two pieces in themselves- purple and turquoise- my two favourite colours! I also wasn't feeling the maxi-dress love today so I wore a skirt instead!
Great job you have done :-) I really like the color combination!

I like the maxi dress, and your mix of colors and prints looks nice.
Well, as you know I love a maxi dress - and I love both Drew's and yours! Not sure about the slouchy shirt over the top in this look, I like something more fitted to reduce the floatiness a bit. But I am liking the colour combination a lot, and I agree it is always good to experiment. Better in warmer weather, maybe! xxx
I think I would love this with a brown leather jacket-- you did great with the boots. This one must have been tough, I don't think I would have been able to make it work!
I was going to participate in IM until I saw the look, Drew Barrymore looks very hippy homeless where as you are pulling it off more, I really like the dress and I think without the shirt in the summertime it will be a home run!

You look so comfy and it's a great color on you Brett!
Hope your week is off to a good start!

Well congrats on stepping out of the box. I think the colors work well together and this is an interesting take on a maxi dress.
hello pretty brett, i want that dress!
Great way to make a casual maxi dress more cool weather appropriate - and I think the button-down makes the whole look seem more relaxed as well, which I like!
I actually really like this look! However... I live in Santa Cruz where everyone is pretty hippie and granola. I would wear this! Maybe with a black and white tie die cotton maxi and a flannel. I love your boots with the look too! I think it works personally.

awesome
Hi Brett! I like the look for summers. I think it's cozy and easy looking and would definitely wear this outfit on a hot evening but would probably try to make the emphasis at the waist with the long blouse over top. I have a small chest so it's easy for me to get lost in layers.
I can't say I'm crazy about this look on Drew - I think it just needs a little structure!
Chic on the Cheap
I admire your effort on this one! Drew totally looks homeless - definitely an interesting style inspiration choice. But your dress will be awesome in the summer!
That blue dress is really amazing! X
I absolutely LOVE Drew's look and you re-created it perfectly - so cute!

Hmmm a flannel shirt over a tie dyed maxi dress? Def a hard combo to pull off but I think you did a grat job and made it work.
It's funny. I saw this pic of Drew on People.com and thought it wasn't the greatest look but then it started growing on me. I think one reason I like it is because of the similar colors in the jacket and skirt. Natasha at One Woman's Style Evolution just did a post about mixing prints, and suggested staying in the same color family.
That said, you look super comfy!
Your dress definitely mimics Drew's with the cascading ruffled layers toward the bottom! I do wonder how this outfit would change if you tied the flannel instead of just letting it hang open.
